Indie Trailer Sunday: Full Trailer for Jonathan Glazer's 'Under the Skin'
"Do you think I'm pretty?" This week's worth watching indie trailer is for the acclaimed, sensual, weird new sci-fi thriller from director Jonathan Glazer (of Sexy Beast, Birth) titled Under the Skin. The film stars Scarlett Johansson as an "alien seductress" who drives around in a van and picks up male hitchhikers in Scotland. Its been playing at film festival recently (Telluride, Toronto, Venice) receiving a few rave reviews, although I'm not the biggest fan myself. This trailer is a longer version of the first teaser a few weeks ago. It also has some of composer Mica Levi's stellar score for the film which is one of the best parts of it. Dive in.
In search of loners, Laura (Scarlett Johansson) drives around the exquisitely moody landscapes of the Scottish highlands. She’s an alien, sent from afar and equipped with enough human language and awesome seductive power to capture, destroy and presumably send home human males. And then, her curiosity about her human body and an accidental act of pity disrupt her mission. Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth) directs the film and co-wrote the script with co-writer Walter Campbell, based on Michael Faber’s novel. The film is screening on the film festival circuit now and was acquired by A24 Films in Toronto. No release date has been set yet, but we expect it to hit theaters sometime in 2014. Stay tuned for updates. Curious?
