'Iron Man 3' Writer Drew Pearce Hopeful 'Runaways' Will Get Made
Back in August 2011, we heard that Marvel's plans to get The Avengers off the ground caused the developing adaptation of the lesser known ensemble comic book movie Runaways to be put on the backburner. Since then, fans have been wondering just when we might see the film hit the big screen, especially since there's a script from Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce sitting on the shelf ready to be made. While on the podcast Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith (via THR), Pearce reiterated, "We were really close to being made, and then this movie started to happen called The Avengers." So in a post-Avengers world, now what?
Pearce said The Avengers, "pulled focus from the unheard-of brand Runaways, and it really did kind of consume the Marvel Cinematic Universe." However, he says, "It's there -- maybe it'll be a Phase Three movie. I really hope so. I'm really proud of it and I think it'll be a brilliant film, but I think it all depends what Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, his master plan is." All we now is that it's one of the more promising developing Marvel properties, especially with a completed script that Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has called, "one of the better screenplays that's sitting on a shelf somewhere." Of course, Marvel has their plans pretty well set through 2017, and unless Runaways is one of the unannounced titles Disney has already slated for release, fans might be waiting awhile.
