James McAvoy / The Crow

Back in 2011, there were rumblings that Bradley Cooper was looking to take the lead role in a reboot of The Crow set up at Relativity Media. But the actor fell away from the project and names like Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum were said to be in consideration. However, those tow have gotten considerably more busy since then, and now a new name has emerged for the project. Bloody Disgusting has word that none other than James McAvoy (Wanted, X-Men: First Class) is now circling the role of Eric Draven, who's resurrected as The Crow to avenge his wife's murder so he can reunite with her in the hereafter. Read on!

McAvoy will be busy with X-Men: Days of Future past this year, but he could likely take on The Crow after he finishes shooting the sequel. He'd be an interesting choice to bring James O'Barr's comic to life again, but I'm just not sure the project is on such high demand to make it happen. F. Javier Gutierrez is directing the film with a script from Jesse Wigutow, and while we saw concept art over a year ago when Cooper was attached, they may go in a new direction since Juan Carlos Fresnadillo is no longer directing. Stay tuned.

Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum.....luckily they aren't playing the role, they wouldnt suite that role. James is a good suggestion tho! RIP Brandon Lee.

Why is there this inccessant need to remake every movie out there. The Crow is, and always will be a cult classic and NOTHING can and will replace it. No amount of casting, writing, acting, special effects, or money will ever do the original justice. PLEASE, LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE!!!

I'm so sick of this. Why does a new movie replace the one you want to watch. It's on blu-ray/ Go watch it. Go share it with your friends. Meanwhile, I am a huge fan of the original graphic novel and I really like James McAvoy and this news is exciting to me... The Crow with Brandon Lee is an amazing film, on of my favorite of all time, and I promise that a new movie will not destroy the space-time continuum and delete it from history, so please will everyone stop claiming that every piece of news is "replacing" the original.

some film makers love graphic novels and want to share their vision. I personally respect that, and I'm sure whoever plays Draven and whoever directs the Crow will respect its roots. A lot of people were against the announcement of an Evil Dead remake. half of them are fuckin stoked for the movie now. I'll never have a problem with remakes because I'll always have the original to look back to. Just because someone tackled the adaptation 20 years ago, doesn't mean someone else can't have their shot at it. look at all the sequels and the tv series for christ sake. all with different actors and filmmakers. I don't see a problem. I loved the comics and the original film as well and I'm certainly looking forward to this.

Brandon Lee, Mark Dacascos, Eric Mabius, Vincent Perez, Edward Furlong have all played the Crow, or are there more?? Maybe it should stay buried.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon but no. I think McAvoy is a great actor but just leave it alone already.
