Jean Smart Plays Nikki Finke in Funny or Die's 'Deadline: The Movie'
If you're one of those cinephiles engrained enough in the movie news world to know the name Nikki Finke, then you know all about the drama the journalist and founder of Deadline Hollywood has created with various executives and other trade news outlets. The controversial and extremely private Finke was recently forced out of Deadline by Jay Penske (who also owns Variety) after buying the website awhile back, and now we're waiting for her to start her own new movie news outlet yet again. Well, the folks at Funny or Die decided to bring Finke's story to life in the form of this perfect faux trailer for Deadline: The Movie.
Here's the fake trailer for Deadline: The Movie from Funny or Die:
That's actually Christina Applegate in a small role, but this is a hilarious parody of the persona that Finke has created for herself with all the industry jargon and trash-talking that happens in any article she personally wrote on Deadline. Plus, the serious tone making Finke's story to be a compelling thriller makes this all the more hilarious. We wish there were more stars making cameos to make this even funnier, but maybe they're just all scared of the wrath of Nikki Finke. This makes us wish the failed HBO series pilot "Tilda," inspired by Finke and featuring Diane Keaton, Ellen Page and more actually got picked up to series.
