Paul Rudd / Ant-Man / Joseph Gordon-Levitt

The release of Marvel's Thor: The Dark World is just around the corner with an October 30th launch on IMAX screens looming, but the comic book studio is getting the pieces of their Phase Three title Ant-Man together. Director Edgar Wright teased that he was getting to work on the film with a behind the scenes picture from shooting the sample reel that played at Comic-Con a couple years ago, and now we have two frontrunners listed to play the lesser known superhero. Variety has word that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd are currently the top contenders, but another actor emerging isn't entirely out of the question.

Gordon-Levitt isn't a surprising choice since he was rumored to take on the role of Doctor Strange for Marvel, but Rudd's inclusion comes out of nowhere. Rudd hasn't really been involved in many thrillers or action movies, but if there's one studio that can change that, it's Marvel. With Wright at the helm, we're betting that the comedy side of things is fairly important to go along with the comic book action, and Rudd and Gordon-Levitt can do that just fine. Supposedly the two actors have to meet with Marvel and Wright one more time before a decision is made, but again, there's talk of one more unnamed actor also being in the mix. Disney releases Ant-Man on July 31st, 2015. Do you like either of these guys for Ant-Man?

    Go for Rudd

I don't know much about Ant-Man so I don't know if either of these two actors look the part or not. But honestly I like both of these choices for very different reasons. Paul Rudd is fun to watch in every thing he does. He has a quick wit and a common sense style of humor and sarcasm to his acting which I think would be very entertaining and a great addition to the Marvel universe. Not to mention a change of pace from the young brute actors like Hemsworth and Evans who play Thor and Captain America. However JGL is much younger and could probably stay with the franchise a bit longer as well as be more convincing doing the physical aspects of the role. He is a great actor and has been establishing himself as a force in Hollywood with his roles in "Inception and "The Dark Knight Rises" so he definitely has the chops to pull it off. Either way these guys are both good choices for Marvel.

Any one but Rudd. I love Levitt in everything, and unlike Rudd can actually act.

You never know man...anything can happen...

I guess, I look at Rudd like I look at Seth Rogan, a funny man who cannot act. Sure they both write funny things for movies but neither of them really act they pretty much just play themselves. They both lack range, casting Paul Rudd will Land this movie in "Green Hornet" territory. Bookmark it and throw it in my face if I'm wrong.

I do hate Rogen, I don't think that he can act, Green Hornet was one of the worst movies I've ever seen because of Rogen who was just so annoying. However, he was brilliant in Superbad. As Marvel movie universe is not trying to be as serious(as it could be), Rudd could turn into a surprise. I want to believe that he can pull off something seriously good. Maybe it's just my dream...

I think Rudd has the chops to branch out but hasn't been pushed hard enough. I don't think Ant Man is necessarily the property for this though.

    Paul Rudd all the way.
  • Ron
Can't really picture Paul Rudd but I could be wrong. But JGL all the way!
  • The_New_leconfidant
    JGL FTW

    Well there goes Ant-Man
  • DAVIDPD
Gordon-Levitt is the obvious choice here. But Rudd would be very an interesting choice.
  • Chris Groves
I'm okay with either of these choices.

I love JGL but he's waaaaaaay too young for Hank Pym, or at least has the appearance and attitude of a much younger man. Also he shouldn't be Dr Strange either. Paul Rudd could go alright. Although I think Aaron Eckhart would make the best Ant-Man/Hank Pym
    • Eric Wilson
Keanu Reeves would make a good Doctor Strange in my opinion.
      • dudeguy
totally agree on Keanu Reeves being doctor strange
      • Sumit Dutta
        That is an inspired idea!!
  • vincent
i thought simon pegg was up for it...jk..
  • batsupe
    Slappin the bass man!
  • ColtNoir
I'd take either and be happy but seriously...Simon Pegg would be too perfect =(
  • Eric Wilson
    My votes on Paul Rudd.
  • Such heroic nonsense
JGL already had an important role in the batman franchise and will have plenty more superhero opportunities in the future. Personally, i think Paul Rudd is not only hilarious but a brilliant actor and i would like to see him break out of his comfort zone to play a superhero like this one. He has the charisma to pull it off.

Couldn't we get someone other than these two? I wouldn't say that I'm sick of Levitt, but that's the kind of feeling that reading his name here gave me. Let's just say that it's a safe choice.
  • Perry Pijnenburg
As much as i love JGL, he's past the point of 'upcoming actor who deserves this chance'. It would be a safe choice. Luckily, he already shot down the rumour on his part. Rudd? Could suck, could be a big surprise. But i really don't want to find out.
  • Joseph
I want Paul Rudd to play Antman in the movie and action figure and villain toys for the movie.
