Welcome back to another edition of Kickstart This, FirstShowing's weekly column dedicated to spreading the word about cool indie projects that need your help to become a reality. This week, we want to turn your attention to a fantasy short film project called Delve. Combining elements of magic, science, and sci-fi, this ambitious short utilizes awesome production designs, some cool practical costume pieces, and even an elaborate CG dragon who becomes a main character in the story. But they need our help. Take a look at their pitch video below, leave us a comment, and don't forget to donate a few bucks if you can. Check this out!
The short film takes place in a world in which science and magic have blended to form the world around the main characters. The main protagonist is Jarreth, a 200-year-old mage who infiltrates an enemy compound to retrieve an object he had hidden there years before. (So it's basically the Martin Lawrence movie Blue Streak, but with magic.) When he and his partner Tess are shot down before they reach their destination, Jarreth must test his resolve and discover how far he's willing to go to complete his mission.
The filmmakers have found some incredible locations at which to film, including cave formations in Northern California that will add huge amounts of production value to their project and really contribute to the world they're trying to create. As for the designs, the team has collaborated with Blue Realm Studios, a design company that created armor for Master Chief in Halo commercials for Microsoft, to create some really cool-looking props and costumes. They already have some gauntlets that look completely professional and as good as anything you'd see in a major Hollywood movie, so I'm excited to see what other kinds of elements they can produce if they reach their goal. Check out the full Delve pitch video below:
For more on Delve, and to help support the project, visit its Kickstarter page. Writer/directors Jesse Boots and Thomas Lynn are looking to raise a total of $12,000 by Wednesday, May 22nd, and they've made some great progress already. Let's help them knock out their last bit of fundraising so they can get to work on what looks to be a really cool project. Donate if you can, but if you're short on cash right now, I'm sure the filmmakers would appreciate if you passed along info on Delve to friends, co-workers, anyone else.
That's all for this week's Kickstart This. Feel free to e-mail me at BenPears85@gmail.com if you find any cool film-related projects that might need some extra attention to meet their goals. My inbox is always open, and if you send in any Kickstarter or IndieGoGo film project, I can't promise we'll feature it, but I will always take a look at it. Thanks for all of your submissions and please keep them coming. (But remember to include a link to the project you're pimpin' in your email!) As always, thanks so much for your support of these projects because they couldn't be completed without the help of film lovers like you. Sound off in the comments, and be sure to visit our archives here for a list of other cool projects we've featured in the past.
