The Expendables

Briefly: Lionsgate has scheduled The Expendables 3, the latest sequel in the ensemble action franchise, for its regular late August spot next year (Expendables 2 opened in August last year). Being directed by Patrick Hughes, Expendables 3 will hit theaters on August 15th, 2014. Besides the usual Expendables crew lead by Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li and Jason Statham, the cast for this next one will likely include Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Nicolas Cage and Milla Jovovich, which sounds crazy and yet awesome. Shooting hasn't started yet, but we expect more casting updates before then. In addition, Schwarzenegger & Stallone's Escape Plan (formerly The Tomb) was also rescheduled to October 18th, 2013 from September.

I think this series is starting to take itself seriously. The second one was bad and i'm talking GI Joe retaliation bad.

I agree, I was going to write something similar. This should be full on tongue and cheek. Think Stargate SG-1, not Stargate: Universe.

SGU was playing at the tone of BSG. Unfortunately, it did not start getting really good until the last half of the second season.

I think that was the problem with SG:U though, fans of the franchise felt left out. It departed so much from the formula laid out in SG-1 and SG:A. But I could discuss that all day, and this is a comment board for Expendables 3.

I could not agree more. And that is what I meant by it was playing at BSG. The weird hand held shots. So much darkness, shadows, melodrama. I ended up really liking SGU and was bummed when Syfy pulled the plug prematurely. SG-1 and SGA worked because they were pretty much comedies with loads of aliens action. They had charismatic characters and inventive plots. I believe if SGU would have been given a proper third season, we could have received something incredible.

I really started to get into SGU at the end of the series, It was like they finally started to get into the grove but it was too late. Oh well at least there is some 300 Sg1 and SGA episodes to watch.

I hope Jackie and Jet really go at it. We still have not got that one.

People give Cage a hard time but I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays out in this film. Maybe because he won't be the primary character in this film like he usually is, will make him a better character and fun to watch.

Fantastic news! I hope, "Escape Plan", turns out to be a good flick! "The Expendables 3", needs to be better all around to supersede the previous 2 in terms of quality, as the gimmick of seeing these guys together is wearing really thin---albeit, another quick cash grab! I sure hope Cage gets a good role to counter Lundgren's, crazy 'Gunner'. That would be awesome and inspired. The other additions will work, I'm sure! I'm still hoping Sly can get Michael Dudikoff in there, too! If this flick goes a bit dark with real emotion and real casualties like the "Fast and Furious" franchise, then it would revitalize the franchise beyond the 3 flicks.
