Michael Shannon, Nicholas Hoult & Two More Join 'Young Ones' Sci-Fi
It's been over a year since we heard anything about the indie sci-fi film called Young Ones being written and directed by Jake Paltrow, brother of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who directed The Good Night in 2007. The story is set in a future were water has become a rare and precious resource, and violence has erupted in this drastically different society. Now Variety has word that Nicholas Hoult, Michael Shannon and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) have all joined the cast along with once attached Elle Fanning who has been confirmed for a role in the film looking to start production in the South African desert next month.
In the story, a teenage cowboy is grieving over the death of his father when he discovers that his fathers' killer has moved in with his sister, and the introduction of some new technology threatens to claim more lives than the water shortage. This sounds like a great sci-fi indie, and something that would be great to see at Sundance next year. At one time, Noah Baumbach was producing, but his name isn't mentioned amongst the filmmakers in this most recent update. Check out the sales art that was used in November of 2011 for a hint at the setting and style, and stay tuned for more.
