Milla Jovovich, Cameron Diaz & Meryl Streep Are 'The ExpendaBelles'?

As The Expendables 3 continues production, producer Avi Lerner and his Millennium Films banner are rounding up a different version of the action ensemble, but this time it will be a whole crew of women called The ExpendaBelles. This is separate from the project that producer Adi Shankar is putting together with Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff, and the cast is much more recognizable. Speaking to a Bulgarian newspaper (via Deadline), Lerner said that he was currently in talks with Milla Jovovich and Cameron Diaz to take roles, which makes sense because they've done action. But he also mentioned Meryl Streep.
Frankly, it's not that unreasonable of an idea. After all, if Helen Mirren can be a bad ass in the RED series, why can't Meryl Streep kick some asses too? Previously she did The River Wild, but hasn't really gone back to action since then. Legally Blonde writers Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith are behind the script, so we might be looking at something a little more lighthearted and comedic as opposed to a straight-up action bonanza like The Expendables. Obviously, that action franchise is funny too, but just because it's so over-the-top silly with machismo.
Anyway, we'll see if this cast actually assembles for the film and who else gets involved. But since Lerner mentioned the likes of Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes for The Expendables 3 when the second film hadn't even hit theaters yet, and they ended up being in the third film, we're pretty sure he can get what he wants. This also explains why Jovovich isn't in The Expendables 3 after all. Surely calls have to be made to Sigourney Weaver and Uma Thurman, right? Who else? A female director is being sought, so hopefully we hear more about this project soon.
