The Monuments Men Trailer

"If we destroy an entire generation of people's culture, it's as if they never existed." Finally! The very first trailer for George Clooney's The Monuments Men has arrived on the web, a short teaser to introduce us to the crew of eight WWII heroes sent to rescue artwork stolen by the Nazis. Clooney stars along with John Goodman, Matt Damon, Bob Balaban, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett & Jean Dujardin. Everything about this looks amazing, from the cast to the production design to the story to all the WWII settings we get to explore once again. This is one of our most anticipated movies left this year for good reason. Take a look!

Watch the very first trailer for George Clooney's The Monuments Men, originally via The Film Stage:

The Monuments Men is directed by George Clooney (Good Night and Good Luck, The Ides of March) who co-wrote the script with his producing partner Grant Heslov. An adaptation Robert M. Edsel's book of the same name, the film follows the true story of a hand-picked group of art experts chosen by the U.S. government to retrieve artwork stolen by the Nazis. Clooney also stars in the film along with an impressive cast including Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban and Hugh Bonneville. Columbia Pictures releases the film on December 18th late this winter. Looking good?

This trailer was good and at least to me this is a fresh concept for a movie. This December is starting to look like one of the strongest months for movies I've ever seen.

      I know man! I can't wait for Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas

looks ok....hardly a "must watch", though.
    • Whaaaaat?! The first trailer for a new WWII movie starring and directed by George Clooney with Bill Murray, John Goodman, Matt Damon AND Cate Blanchett in the cast - this is TOTALLY a must watch! Maybe the second trailer won't be must watch, but everything about this one is must watch. One of my most anticipated movies this year (so many of them this year)!

Interested in making a top ten of your most anticipated movies left this year? Say a little about each and show a trailer if there is one.
        • Possibly. Most of our most anticipated were already covered in this article - 21 Movies You Can Still Look Forward to In the Second Half of 2013: Everything moves so quickly. There's a good 10 I could pull from November/December, but I start seeing films in Telluride/Toronto in September. So I'll see half of my most anticipated by then. Time flies so fast! I can try and put something together before I leave for the festivals in a few weeks, but not sure if I'll have time. Good suggestion!

I agree with Alex 100%. All those amazing actors, put together in a cool WWII movie about something thats not usually talked about in most WWII movies. This looks Exciting, Dramatic, Funny... im all in

This is a Best Picture nominee certainly.

i like the cast very much. but i don't like the comedic bent. also, while the art angle of the story may end up being very good - i'm not convinced from this trailer. sorry, i thought forums were for adding an opinion - not just going along with the what the site owner thinks. i won't bother to offer an opinion on here any more.
        • You're more than welcome to add your opinion, hopefully I'm not preventing you from doing that. I responded with my own reaction explaining why I thought it was must watch. If you really don't think it is must watch, you can explain and defend your opinion as well. We do certainly encourage open discussion on the forums.

That looks a lot better than I expected.
  • I love WWII films, and this one fits my criteria of a triple threat: great director, great cast, great concept. Can't wait to see it.
  • grimjob
    Looks damn good,

Looks good. Liked everything about the trailer except the sound track. I think they could have found something better to fit the period and the situation.
    • ali3000
Like what? I, too, thought of the same thing, but then couldn't think of a good track to go with this trailer.
      • Sahil
that's besides the point. this specific track still didn't fit imo.

Why isn't Bob Balaban's given a credit? He rules!
  • Chris Scott
    Looks okayish we'll see

  • truong18
the music a little off beside that everything looks great.
  • Mustang55
First part of this played like it was Ocean's Eight.
    • zey
Seemed like all of it played like Ocean's Eight to me...
  • I like it.
  • Guest
    Bummed it's a comedy
    • Huh? Where do you get comedy from that?
    • grimjob
Its got some comedy, sure, but this isn't a comedy.
  • Nielsen700
    I can dig it.
  • zey
The song choice is odd and out of place for the subject matter, and it obviously looks like another Ocean's sequel. Here's hoping the smarmy tone was just amped up for the trailer, was hoping for a bit more serious film.
  • Sharkman
    Based upon a true story called . . . Kelley's Heroes.
  • Oct8pus
So, Bill Murray has no good lines in this movie?
