New 'Man of Steel' TV Spot Focuses on Human Fear of Superman

Man of Steel

"Can you imagine how people on this planet would react if they knew there was someone like this out there?" The previous Man of Steel trailers have highlighted Clark Kent's struggle with his alien powers and whether or not he should reveal his secret to humankind, beginning with saving his classmates in a school bus accident. Now this new TV spot highlights this same struggle as a grown man, with military cautiously pointing their arms at him, and Pa Kent (Kevin Costner) explaining the eventual ultimatum, "whether to stand proud in front of the human race, or not." Every little new bit in these spots just keeps looking better.

Here's the new TV spot for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel from the Warner Bros. Pictures:

Here's another new TV spot that just showed up today as well:

Man of Steel, the new DC Comics Superman reboot, is being directed by Zack Snyder, of Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen & Sucker Punch previously. Christopher Nolan is producing, and co-wrote the story with David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Unborn, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), who wrote the script. Warner Bros is bringing Man of Steel to theaters everywhere June 14th this summer. Will you be there?

Two things this Superman film seems to be doing very differently from the older ones and other superhero films (thankfully): 1. It's treating the coming of Superman as a First Contact story, in which the world, I'm hoping, has a more natural reaction to the fact that there are others out there. 2. The people of Earth try to protect themselves and take responsibility for their own race, as opposed to sitting around and pointing as the heroes fly this way and that. No trailer for this film has made these things more apparent than this one.

You forgot to mention the absence of Lex Luther and kryptonite. Two overused handicaps for Superman that seem to be in every previous movie.

Reminds me of Last Son of Krypton comic book as Luthor said: you made people rely on you instead of fighting for themselves! Brilliant

well done sir...I love that analysis!

Pa Kent is quite dark. Not liking it. Zod in his CGI armor reminds me of Green Lantern and that's not a good thing. Actings seems quite stiff as well.

His armor is not CGI...

Totally agree with you. Not feeling this film.

SuperFan on May 13, 2013

Stop being a purist. You don't like this version because you have the old comic or the Christopher Reeve's version stuck in your head. If every movie is made like that then there would be no creative innovation. A movie is suppose to make you suspend your disbelief and engross you in the world and story. I like how this version is looking so far. Every generation should have its own version, I think this version is perfect for the current generation of comic readers and superman lovers.

vader3d on May 14, 2013

11

Hey now some of the older generation wanna see this too. I like the old films, But yeah I agree we needed something different. So I'm ready for this.

This is from the director of Sucker Punch right? HA HA HA! Looks like another awful take on a DC character. Why not embrace the source material instead of constantly trying to bastardize it.

Wingnut on May 13, 2013

13

Uh, what? Based on all the trailers and spots so far, this is probably going to embrace the source material more than any of the previous Superman films; several lines are taken directly from Mark Waid's "Superman: Birthright" (along with the main idea of Superman proving that humanity can trust him), and some images are straight re-creations of panels in "All-Star Superman". Maybe you should take another look at the recent Superman canon?

And 300, Dawn of the Dead, and Watchmen.

Xerxexx on May 13, 2013

16

He actually slightly ruined Watchmen with his slow-mo speed up crap and kinda missed the point with fetishizing the "superheroes" and portraying them in the usual superheroe, superhuman way.Don't get me wrong it's still a great movie and it's mostly true to the source material but by making the vigilantes of Watchmen into typical superheroes and giving them almost superhuman abilities he missed the point of the original story. The only superhuman is the blue guy,the others are just some wackos,"ordinary" people who decided to dress up and take the law into their own hands and that's what made the story interesting. But of course Snyder could not resist to put his "slow-mo super heroes are awesome" juvenile crap in.Again ,I really liked the movie but that kind of bugged me.It works in 300, anywhere else it's just a silly gimmick. This is just my opinion,it's not hating ,don't get emotional 🙂 Well,if the trailers are any indication we won't be seeing any of that shit in Man of Steel.Actually it looks to be a great summer flick.

sure why not on May 13, 2013

17

exactly?

Dan Hibiki on May 13, 2013

18

300 was good when it stuck to Frank Miller's comic. Any time Zack veered away from the source material, butchers it. Dawn Of The Dead... forgettable. Watchmen was garbage. Let's talk Guardians of Gahoole shall we? That film was an abomination.

Kyle Robinson on May 13, 2013

19

I'd say Dawn of the Dead was his best film by far. Pre slow-mo era, and featuring some pretty interesting characters (especially for a "serious" zombie film). That being said, Sucker Punch was absolute crap on every conceivable level.

Matt on May 13, 2013

20

That's what I've been saying. Zack is a terrible director.

Watchmen on May 13, 2013

21

So why did Nolan pick him to direct this? Just asking....

Scopedog on May 14, 2013

22

I rarely comment on fanBoys comments but this one made me, lmao. WHAT? where the hell do you this movie bastardizing lol. If you want to talk bastardizing point fingers at your own label and ask MARVEL why they allowed Black to punk Mandarin. lmao

blueorangeny on May 13, 2013

23

The problem with fanboys is that they are close minded. If the comic says something then it has to be forever be like that. They do not allow deviation from the origin source and do not allow creative innovations.

What was that commercial where Superman is used to recruit for the US Military? WB, you do know this is an international market now don't you? And the US Military is not highly regarded in many parts of the world. Feared. Yes. Respected. No.

Yawn...stop projecting your goofy leftwing opinions onto other people. There are COUNTLESS people and countries who owe their lives and freedom to the US and it's military. Anyone who hates the US military for deposing of Saddam Hussein is too stupid to be taken seriously. Let me know when the US military invades Canada or sets up death camps. Until then STFU

You cant judge a film by trailers alone, or their past movies, every director grows each film the take on. Wait till its out then decide. Personally i am taking a neutral view on the movie and let it be what i hope its looking like, a good character building action movie. BTW Henry Cavil is more than than capable of portraying a character you would want to follow into a fight...

kane on May 13, 2013

39

Well said. It's looking like Man of Steel is going to be a watershed moment in Zack Snyder's career.

ikkf on May 13, 2013

40

I agree, people watch the Reeve's version and some how don't allow other versions. A good movie is a good movie, people should watch it because its new don't let close mindedness prevent you from enjoying what could be a really good version of this generation of Superman.

vader3d on May 14, 2013

41

So Superman is like Dexter...? He imagines his dead father, Jor-El talking to him....? This film is going to suck.

Kyle Robinson on May 13, 2013

I dont want to watch TV spots any more as long as i know that I will be expeirencing it in theaters, so no point. I will be only recking it for myself.

I seriously cannot understand how anyone can bash this film by seeing all of these trailers and tv spots? Nothing short of epicness is presented to us in all of these spots/trailers. Many people seriously just have bad taste, go watch Iron Man 3 for the 3rd time, I'm sure you haters must have liked that garbage.

Hew, people gotta complain about something, even if it's something they haven't seen yet. I'm hoping that the film is good, because the talent in front of and behind the camera is excellent all around.

Dear God, Please let this movie do so well that everyone of these ridiculous, just wanting to be different S.O.B's, who say they hate a movie from nothing but trailers, will then cry out " BEST SUPERHERO MOVIE EVER!!", only to have Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and all the cast of this movie then SLAP THE SHIT OUTTA THEM!! Yeah, if you can just take care of that for me God, that'll be just great, Thanks.
