Nicolas Cage to Lead Paul Schrader's Thriller 'The Dying of the Light'
At one time, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn was supposed to direct a film called The Dying of the Light starring Harrison Ford and Channing Tatum, all working from a script by Taxi Driver writer Paul Schrader (who has The Canyons with Lindsay Lohan arriving this week). The film fell apart because Ford bailed (you can read spoilery details on why at The Playlist), but Schrader is now directing the thriller himself, and recently said another A-list actor was going to take the role. Now Showbiz 411 reports from Schrader's post-screening Q&A from The Canyons that Nicolas Cage is taking the lead role. More below!
Red Granite (the company behind Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street) is producing the film which will mark a reunion of Cage with Schrader after the former starred in Scorsese's Bringing Out the Dead, which was scripted by Schrader. The film follows a C.I.A. agent who starts to become afflicted with blindness while on his last mission, so this should be a much more high profile film than The Canyons. Plus, Refn is still executive producing the film, so he might still have some input on the project. It might not be as engaging as the version with Ford could have been, but we're still interested. How about you?
