Now Bruce Campbell Says 'Army of Darkness 2' is 'All Internet B.S.'

We've run the gamut of Evil Dead news lately. Recently, there were rumblings that director Fede Alvarez and writer Rodo Sayagues had fallen away from the remake sequel (until the director revealed that wasn't true), and Alvarez also revealed that Sam Raimi was lined up to direct Evil Dead 4, or what is now being called Army of Darkness 2. But all of this buzz started after Bruce Campbell talked about the potential sequel, joking about playing a geriatric Ash in the sequel. Now Campbell is denouncing all of the talk about Army of Darkness 2 in an interview with PopFix (via Shock Til You Drop) saying, "It's all Internet B.S."
Campbell seemed almost annoyed with the talk of the sequel saying:
"It's all Internet b.s. - there's no reality whatsoever. These random comments slip out of my mouth or Sam Raimi's mouth, next thing you know, we're making a sequel. Unless you have it announced from Renaissance Pictures, it's not real. Or unless you have a start date, or a release date
We do appreciate people's enthusiasm for another 'Army of Darkness,' but they should just wait until it's real. I feel bad for people because the Internet is so prey to misinformation, it's unbelievable how much misinformation there is. I just encourage everybody, get the real information, not just if you heard something."
Here's the problem with that, Mr. Campbell. While your statements about Army of Darkness 2 could easily just be lighthearted joking, statements from Fede Alvarez about the project seem to indicate that it's happening. While Campbell is certainly an integral part of getting the film made, there's no guarantee that he knows every single thing happening with development. Case in point, Campbell says that Alvarez isn't making Evil Dead 2 anymore and is doing other stuff. In reality, Alvarez is simply making another film (Dante's Inferno) before moving forward with the sequel. These days it seems like there's just as much information from the people working on these films as wild Internet rumors. There's no telling how all this will actually play out, but we'll keep you posted.
