Paramount Delays 'Ninja Turtles' Yet Again, This Time for Toy Strategy

After a delay in 2012 caused by seemingly necessary budget cuts, the Michael Bay produced iteration of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was pushed back from a Christmas 2013 release date until May of 2014. Then later the date was shifted again by a month back to June 6th, 2014. Well, the third time is the charm as Deadline reports Paramount Pictures is pushing back the Nickelodeon Movies and Platinum Dunes production back two more months for release on August 8th. This time the reason cited is to allow Transformers 4 to enjoy more time as the prominent merchandising and advertising giant for a couple of months before they do battle with themselves on toy shelves when TMNT releases a bit later. More below!
However, this new release shift puts Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in theaters just a week before Marvel releases Guardians of the Galaxy. And while that cosmic superhero ensemble is untested with audiences and has a much smaller built-in audience, the Marvel brand will still get butts in the seats and kids interested in the action figures. And if the footage shown at Comic-Con is any indicator, Marvel and Disney have another hit on their hands, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles might not be able to shake a bo staff at their competition. Only time will tell.
