Peter Jackson Hosting Worldwide 'The Hobbit' Fan Event in November
To kick off the final countdown, Peter Jackson has announced a worldwide fan event for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, taking place on Monday, November 4th. The event will involve a "special live presentation" at theaters in 13 different locations around the world, including four cities in the US/Canada. Jackson explained the plans on his Facebook page: "I would like to invite you to join me and many members of the cast... we'll be appearing before live audiences in cities around the world." The Hobbit cast will be at different locations and they'll participate in a simultaneous Q&A and also "present a few special surprises."
The "worldwide fan event" was just announced, more info is available on thehobbit.com/fanevent. The event will take place starting 2PM PT / 5PM ET on November 4th, with a "live Q&A and exclusive footage shown in participating theaters and live streamed on facebook.com/TheHobbitMovie." If you're not able to attend in person, the entire Q&A will be live-streamed online (but not the exclusive footage). Jackson added in his Facebook post that "additional cinemas will be set up in select locations worldwide where fans can gather and watch the events unfold live." This is the only info they have released so far, the rest remains a mystery.
A press release from Warner Bros adds this tidbit: CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper, who serves as special host for the entire event, will be based in New York, where he will welcome Richard Armitage, the film's Thorin Oakenshield, and Orlando Bloom, who returns to the role of Legolas from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Evangeline Lilly, who joins the cast as a new Elf warrior, Tauriel, will be based in Los Angeles. London will host new cast member Lee Pace, the film's Elf King Thranduil; Luke Evans, who joins the cast as Bard the Bowman; and Andy Serkis, a member of Jackson's filmmaking team and the first film's Gollum.
Peter Jackson started by saying, "Less than two months 'til we open The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on December 13, and we're in the midst of an intense post-production." For those anxiously awaiting this release and planning to attend the fan event, he adds: "Those that do show up in the cinemas... let's just say that I'm going to have a special 'thank you' from me for making that extra effort." Sounds like this is do-not-miss for all diehard fans! Wish I could be there. As PJ says, "Be sure to check the official Facebook and Twitter pages for details on locations, timing, and how to sign up for a chance to join us." See ya there.
