As if we would expect anything less, director Cameron Crowe is rounding up quite an impressive cast for his next film. The currently untitled project set up at Sony Pictures with producer Scott Rudin already has Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone on board, and now another great actress is getting involved. Deadline has word that The Notebook and The Time Traveler's Wife star Rachel McAdams will take a role playing a former love of Cooper's character. However, we're not really sure what the story details are in this film since it's apparently just a reworked version of Crowe's old project called Deep Tiki from years ago. More below!
The original story for Deep Tiki followed a military weapons consultant deployed to a dormant base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of a spy satellite. However, he soon has moments of self-discovery as he reflects on the relationships he left behind. The story gets a little weird with Hawaiian Gods and a volcano sacrifice, and thus drew some comparisons to Joe Versus the Volcano starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. However, there have been indications that the script has been completely revamped, so this might not even be all that accurate anymore.
If McAdams is playing a former lover of Cooper's that would fit in with the vague information from the old script, but it's far from a confirmation of details. Crowe wrote the script and is looking to start shooting this October so we should hear more soon. Either way, McAdams is one hell of an addition, and this will likely be the most high profile film she's done since The Vow last year. Otherwise this year she's staying low key with Terrence Malick's To the Wonder and Brian De Palma's Passion, and she's due for more screentime.
