Rumor: Elizabeth Olsen for Scarlet Witch in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'
Back in May of 2013, we learned that Kick-Ass and "American Horror Story" star Evan Peters had landed the role of Quicksilver, a character with superhuman speed who happens to be the son of Magneto and the twin brother of Scarlet Witch, in the forthcoming sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch can also be used in Marvel's gestating sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and director Joss Whedon has confirmed their involvement in the superhero ensemble in some form. When Whedon was talking about the two characters, he said that Saoirse Ronan was in his head while crafting the character, but Bleeding Cool has said the actress already passed on the role. More below!
Now Marvel and Whedon supposedly have their sights set on Elizabeth Olsen, the actress who skyrocketed to fame as an indie darling in films like Martha Marcy May Marlene, Silent House and Liberal Arts, and will soon be seen in some bigger studio films like Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy and the new take on Godzilla. For those who aren't familiar, Scarlet Witch uses what is called Chaos Magic Reality Warping, the superhuman ability to manipulate chaos magic. Her hexes essentially destabilize probabilities by inducing chaos. Nerd stuff.
Olsen is still a rising star, so she won't command a big paycheck, which is something Marvel has always been keen on when picking up new talent, but she's certainly a great talent to bring into the Marvel universe. Casting will be finalized pretty soon since production has to begin late this year or early next year to meet the summer 2015 release. Stay tuned to hear if this turns out to be anything more than a rumor, and for anymore updates on all the films in Marvel's cinematic universe.
