Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock provided the voice of Moses' sister Miriam in the 1998 animated film The Prince of Egypt, but now the actress is lending her vocal talents to a different kind of role than what she's used to. Deadline reports that Bullock will play the lead villain in Minions, the Illumination Entertainment spin-off of Despicable Me that centers on the goofy lil yellow henchman from the original film (see above). This shouldn't be confused with the sequel, Despicable Me 2, because that is coming out this summer and has Al Pacino voicing the lead baddie. Minions will hit theaters on December 19th, 2014. More below!
In Minions, Bullock will be playing Scarlet Overkill, an evil woman attending a villain convention that is hand-picked by the minions to be their new leader. This is a prequel to the original Despicable Me and will be set in the 1960s, with the story revealing that the minions have been around since the beginning of time serving under history's most ambitious villains. On the search for a new master, they stumble across Miss Overkill, who - despite dressing like Audrey Hepburn - wants to rule the world as the first female super-villain. Sounds like it could be a very fun alternate superhero story along the lines of Megamind, and it'll definitely be entertaining to hear Bullock in an evil role instead of her typical girl next door persona.
