New 'Terminator' Sarah Connor Shortlist Names Emilia Clarke & More
The reboot of Terminator is slated to arrive in the summer of 2015, which means production will begin early next year. But first, the cast needs to be assembled, and Paramount already has a shortlist of actresses testing for the prominent role of Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor played by Linda Hamilton in the first two movies in the original franchise. The character started as a damsel in distress, and then turned into a hard-ass in the sequel. So who is in the running this time? THR says Emilia Clarke ("Game of Thrones"), Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) and Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) on the shortlist.
For my money, Clarke is easily the best choice for the role. She's already proven she can be tough as nails and intimidating as hell in "Game of Thrones" and that will become a key element to the character. Larson certainly has the acting chops to pull it off, but we've yet to see her get into any real action, but this year's performance in Short Term 12 show she has some powerful talent that is helping her as a rising leading lady. Finally, Robbie is just blossoming after the ABC series "Pan-Am" didn't pan out, but she reportedly puts in a great supporting performance in The Wolf of Wall Street.
Schmoes Know had the original report (improving their status as scoopers), and now it has been confirmed. In addition, Paramount also has their eye on a couple actors to play Kyle Reese, the man who will father John Connor. Garrett Hedlund is the only name confirmed to test for the role in the future, despite the mention of Boyd Holbrook, who reportedly is not in the running. And before you start thinking John Connor won't be in the reboot, that's not the case, and director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) has a wishlist with Tom Hardy on top, but he hasn't been approached for the role yet. As of now, only Arnold Schwarzenegger is confirmed to return for the new trilogy. Who do you want in Terminator?
