Sony Classics Schedules 'Before Midnight' for May Limited Release

Well that was quick. Sony Pictures Classics has announced a series of release dates through the summer for their upcoming 2013 films. Key among them is Richard Linklater's Before Midnight, one of the best films coming out of the Sundance Film Festival, a beautiful piece of cinematic perfection (read Ethan's Sundance review). Classics has scheduled the film for a limited release, starting in New York and Los Angeles only, on May 24th, 2013 early this summer. I hope it does well and I hope they expand it, because it's a great film. They also scheduled Woody Allen's new San Francisco-set flick and Pedro Almodovar's film for the summer.

These new dates come from the Exhibitor Relations Facebook page, where they confirm: Sony Classics will drop Richard Linklater's Before Midnight on May 24th in NY/LA; Pedro Almodovar's latest, I'm So Excited, will hit NY/LA starting on June 28th; and Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine blooms on July 26th in NY/LA, starring Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard, Louis C.K. It seems like Classics lining up quite an impressive summer, and if a few of these hit, it's going to be a good year for them. I'm throwing all my support behind Before Midnight, I love that film so damn much, and I want everyone else to love it, too.
