'Star Wars: Episode VII' News and Teaser Coming Sooner Than Later?

Star Wars: Episode 7

There has barely been any official news about Star Wars: Episode VII since it was announced that Disney would continue the iconic sci-fi saga. J.J. Abrams is directing the film with a script from Michael Arndt and John Williams will return to compose the score, but there hasn't been any official news regarding a title, story, casting or anything like that. Well, fans might not have to wait much longer. There's some buzz on the Internet that an official announcement might be just around the corner. In fact, there are rumblings that this month might be when Disney decides to break some news, but there are some potential hurdles.

First, much of the buzz about any announcements seems to come from Ali Arikan, a film critic at Dipnot TV (via Comic Book), who posted on Twitter:

"So here’s what I’m hearing about Episode VII. Casting and title announcements are imminent, possibly today or tomorrow. But that’s not all. I’ve heard word that there’ll be an announcement trailer/teaser featuring Luke. Tweeting this so I look like Nikki Finke if/when it happens."

In addition, Devin Faraci of Badass Digest, who broke news of a potential holiday release for the sequel instead of the presumed summer plans, posted on Twitter (via SlashFilm), "I think we're pretty close to some official Star Wars announcements." The more intriguing part of these bits is that there might be some kind of teaser video announcing the release date and title, which wouldn't be surprising following all the videos that George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy used to discuss the deal between Lucasfilm and Disney. Of course, it does seem to come out of nowhere, and maybe this teaser, or announcement, isn't coming so soon.

JediNews ran two rumors on the supposedly forthcoming news and teaser. First of all, they say the teaser won't arrive until April 2014, when Disney releases Captain America: The Winter Soldier into theaters, and on that teaser will be the release date of November 11th, 2015, which is different than the December release rumored in August. But Ant-Man was just moved from a November release, so that new rumored date isn't unreasonable.

As far as the news goes, they think October 23rd might bring some announcements, but apparently there are three things that might hold that back: an Apple iPad announcement rumored for October 22nd, the impending release of Thor: The Dark World in IMAX October 30th and November 8th in all theaters, and apparently Harrison Ford doesn't want to deal with Star Wars announcement press until he's done promoting Ender's Game. That all makes sense, but if Lucasfilm and Disney really want to make an announcement and maybe release a teaser, why not use Thor: The Dark World to maximize that? I guess we'll just have to keep sitting patiently to see when the studio decides to unleash some real news on us.

Dark screen, snap hiss of a lightsaber coming to life and revealing an old worn Luke with a beard and hood pulled high like Obi-Wan

Excellent idea. I hope someone from Disney sees your comment and acts on it. Great!
Just take your time with the feature and I will be happy.

Slow your roll and take all the time you need with this project. No rush. I'm excited but terrified at the same time. The prequels are hard to watch even though the Anakin and Obi Wan Kenobi fight is still impressive...if these sequels are rushed and churned out like baby rabbits then they will fail. I trust in Arndt and Abrams.

Still...very worried about Ford...the guy phones in all performances as of late...he wanted Han to die so hopefully he rekindles his love for the character. Ever read the Boba Fett theory that he killed Luke's Aunt and Uncle? Awesome stuff.

I prefer to think it was just some random Stormtroopers than the fan service convenience of Boba Fett being there. Why would a bounty hunter do free grunt work like that?
      • Xerxexx
The biggest Fett indicator is the fact that their were skeletal remains...perhaps Fett's flame thrower? Or a thermal detonater if the wanna go with Storm Troopers.

          Oh, for crying out loud....

It would be interesting. Fett is apparently known for disintegration. PLUS Fett WAS on Tatooine at the time, he's seen at the end of the scene where Han speaks with Jabba... It would be one of those 'retroactive sequel reveals' like how in Spider-Man 3 they reveal that Sandman was the one that REALLY shot Uncle Ben just to create 'new drama'...but still, I would be okay with it. It's not out of the realm of possibility to believe that the Empire might have hired Fett to do it.
  • Such heroic nonsense
If he puts the same amount of devotion in this as he did in Star Trek, then im sure it should be good.

I still say that December 18th, 2015 should be the best release date. That weekend worked wonders for Titanic and Avatar. Yes, a few movies already have that date, but you know if Star Wars Episode 7 snatched it that they would move without a moment's hesitation, "Warcraft" and "Inferno" don't have anything on Star Wars.

Just don't fuck this up. That's all I care about.

I was impressed by Gravity. The story, the characters and, of course, the incredible visuals (ILM is not tops). Whatever this episode 7 is going to be, it should be worked with the greatest that the talents can muster, from the writing, to the cast, to the visual effects. It won't happen.

    Shaddup, you schmuck.
