Stephen Lang Somehow Returning for All Three 'Avatar' Sequels Now

Stephen Lang

Following false rumors that Arnold Schwarzenegger would reunite with director James Cameron for a villain role in the first of three Avatar sequels, which start to hit theaters in December of 2016, it sounds like the villain will in fact be a familiar face on Pandora. Deadline has word from Cameron himself that Stephen Lang, who played the intense Colonel Miles Quaritch in the first film, is coming back for the sequels. And yes, that's plural because he will be back for all three new films in the series. Cameron says, "Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back." But how will he come back?

For those who saw the first film (and there were few who didn't), they know that Quaritch seemed to have lived his last day. Cameron says, "I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.” Perhaps Lang gets his own Na'vi body and comes after the natives again, or more likely, he becomes cyborg in nature, since Deadline calls him the Darth Vader of the series. Either way, Cameron seems to be hinting that maybe Lang won't always be a bad guy if he goes to some "unexpected places." Stay tuned.

    Clone?
  • Trey
interesting...I liked him in Avatar Somehow he will either get cloned, or Pandora "mother" spirit will revive him

I can only see Eywa reviving him if he comes back first as either Na'vi clone or partial cyborg, and he has a change-of-heart. Then again, Eywa is about balance, so who knows.

I'm a fan of Lang, from his supporting roles in stuff like Tombstone and Public Enemies to him being a great antagonist in Avatar. I think it will be cool to have him back and see how his character evolves.

Perhaps grown like the Na'vi bodies. In fact, the original has been alive all this time and the one we saw was a grown clone as well. One of the sequels will feature an army of Stephen Lang clones; Avatar: Attack of the Clones.

Sam Worthington, in Avatar form, will battle them all like an army of Agent Smith clones.

Clone or Aliens-style cyborg, who cares?

"He was so memorable to the films that we're going to cop out like most other movies and bring him back to life by using some stupid explanation why he's still alive"

    THESE FILMS ARE CALLED "AVATAR."

well... there went any incentaive I may have had to even consider the sequels now... Arnold would have been bad enough to "screw the pooch" on anything but this pathetic lack of imagination/inspiration is nearly as bad...
  • Brian Long
Him as a cyborg would be flawless.
  • fazha
Are you kidding? They'll just open the clone dna drawer labeled 'Quaritch'
  • Joshua Addisson Roach
he was easily the most one-dimensional, cardboard, predictable, boring, and pointless characters in that movie full of pointless characters.
  • El_MUERkO
Super secret human avatar? I assume if they can make a robot they can make a human, maybe he was one, maybe his brain survived his death (i don't remember how he died) and was implanted into a new body or is sitting in a jar and avataring a body around bent on revenge..

took two arrows in the chest and exposed to the toxic air.

Bar the obviously technical achievements/breakthroughs blah blah blah, Avatar just wasn't good ... a lot of hooplah over nothing. =/
  • Such heroic nonsense
Figures! This guy was such a hardass theres no way he could not be in the sequels.
  • cobrazombie
There was nothing memorable about Avatar besides the sterile technical achievements.
