'The American' Director Finds 'Life' with Unique James Dean Chronicle
After being at the helm of the quiet thriller The American is 2010, later this year, director Anton Corbijn has an adaptation of John le Carré's A Most Wanted Man with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rachel McAdams on the way. Now Corbijn is lining up his next project, and it sounds quite compelling. The Wrap says the music video director turned filmmaker is attached to helm Life, a film written by Luke Davies (Candy) which chronicles the interesting relationship that formed between photographer Dennis Stock when he met then-undiscovered star James Dean at a party and saw something special in him. Read on!
Stock is the focus of the story as he feels guilty as an estranged parent to his son. But after meeting Dean in 1955 before the premiere of East of Eden, Stock slowly comes out of his funk after spending time with the kid in Los Angeles, New York, and Indiana, having been commissioned by Life Magazine to photograph the future star. Those photos would eventually gain a lot more attention and turn Stock into a big name in the photography world. Their relationship at the center of this story sounds like it could be something akin to My Week with Marilyn, but we'll have to see who has the chops to play Dean.
