Tina Fey Taking Female Lead Alongside Ricky Gervais in 'Muppets 2'
In just a few days, we'll see "Saturday Night Live" alum Tina Fey take the stage with longtime friend and fellow comedian Amy Poehler as the dynamic duo host the 70th Annual Golden Globes (see an amusing promo right here). However, big news for the comedienne has arrived on the big screen front as THR reports Fey is in the final stages of locking down a deal to take the lead female role in Disney's The Muppets sequel. Though no story details have been revealed, the story takes the Muppets to Europe for a caper. Ricky Gervais is involved somehow, Ty Burrell plays a lazy Interpol inspector, but who does Fey play?
Here's a taste of Tina Fey on "Sesame Street" messing with the red Muppet monster Elmo:
In what sounds like a strange female lead, Fey will play a Russian gulag prison guard. This is sounding a little weird, but a caper in Europe could be very fun, especially with director James Bobin and writer Nicholas Stoller back for the sequel. It's been a couple years since Fey has been seen in live-action on the big screen as her last feature film was Date Night with Steve Carell, and she also a small role in the 2009 comedy Invention of Lying with Gervais wrote, co-directed and starred in. In addition to her hosting stint on the Golden Globes, audiences will see Fey star opposite Paul Rudd in the March release Admission. With her comedy series "30 Rock" ending this spring, Fey will likely get a lot more big screen action soon. Cool?
