Tom Hanks Does a Reddit AMA for 'Captain Phillips' - His Best Answers
"Be a gentleman and tell the truth and things might be better for you. And, mustache? Shave it off!" Just a sample of the brilliant advice coming from Tom Hanks. The Oscar winning actor participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) today in promotion of his new movie Captain Phillips, arriving in theaters October 11th. Reddit AMAs have become very popular promotional tools after Obama participated last year. Even Hanks admitted in one answer why he did the AMA: "Scott Rudin suggested it and my kids said I had to. I like it." He even goes on to say, "I prefer this AMA to interviews!" I'm not surprised. He gets to answer some of the craziest questions anyone can ask in his own words. Some of his best answers are listed below.
After browsing through most of his short answers, here are our favorites from Tom Hanks' AMA. Click any of the screenshots below to view the original answer on Reddit. There's plenty more where these came from!
View the full Reddit AMA here. I didn't know Tom Hanks was such a big fan of the Borg! Awesome. I also love that he still supports all of his work, even if it flops, and gives Cloud Atlas some special mention as well as classics like Big, The Burbs and That Thing You Do. When asked "do you have a favorite actor or actress that you loved working with?" his answer is, obviously enough: "Impossible!" Someone asked if he would make a sequel to Apollo 13 (which doesn't make sense). His response: "Apollo 14?" Hanks also provides some great life lessons (see the last one) and some great tips on how to be successful and how to appreciate the work you do. Overall a fascinating, fun, entertaining Reddit AMA from one of the greatest actors around.
Be sure to see Hanks in Captain Phillips when it hits theaters on October 11th. It's intense, but damn good!

Interesting. Although some of his answers were a bit wishy washy. It is great to see a legend answer us mere mortals.
