It's no secret that Tom Hardy is one of the busiest and most sought after actors in Hollywood right now. The Dark Knight Rises star is shooting Animal Rescue right now, and he's got a more than a handful of future projects in the works. Now we can add one more to the mix as Deadline reports Hardy will lead The Outsider, which will be the English-language debut of Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins). Joel Silver will produce the film that was originally set up through is deal at Warner Bros., but now the film will be independently financed for a shoot in Japan early next year. More below!
The film follows the life of a former American G.I. who becomes part of the infamous Yakuza criminal organization in Japan shortly after World War II. Though I'm not familiar with Miike's work as a filmmaker, it bodes well that someone as busy as Hardy is taking the time to star in his first Stateside film. And with a producer like Joel Silver working through his Silver Pictures banner, this is sure to have all the right support. The script comes from new writer Andrew Baldwin, who worked on the gestating remake of Logan's Run (which can't seem to get any traction towards production), so this could be a good launching point for the writer to start getting more attention down the road.
