Vera Farmiga Waiting on Robert Downey Jr. in Dobkin's 'The Judge'
Robert Downey Jr. will be donning his Iron Man attire again when Iron Man 3 hits theaters this summer, but after that, he'll be settling into a more reserved role than that of billionaire Tony Stark. He's headlining The Judge, a new film that sees him play a big city lawyer who returns home for his mother's funeral to find that his father, a judge played by Robert Duvall, is suspected of murdering her. Downey's character will also reconnect with his estranged family members and relationships he left behind, and THR reports that Up in the Air star Vera Farmiga will play a hometown girl who shares a history with him. More below!
Farmiga can currently be seen as Norman Bates' mother in the new A&E drama series "Bates Motel," a modernized prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's classic horror film Psycho but in The Judge, her character works as a waitress who never left her small town, so this could be another vulnerable performance from her. Farmiga is more than capable of holding her own against big players like Downey and Duvall, as she proved with her solid turn in Martin Scorsese's star-studded The Departed and Jason Reitman's Up in the Air, the latter of which earning her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress in 2009.
David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) is directing a screenplay from writer Bill Dubuque, and filming is set to start this June in Boston. Farmiga will likely be able to finish her work here before jumping into press duties for The Conjuring, her new horror film from Saw director James Wan that opens on July 19th, 2013.
