Vin Diesel in Sci-Fi 'Soldiers of the Sun' from 'Grace of Monaco' Writer
Fans are still waiting for the sci-fi sequel Riddick to hit theaters next month, but Vin Diesel is already planning more sci-fi for his future. The actor is already all but officially confirmed to voice the tree alien Groot in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, and now Heat Vision reports the Fast & Furious franchise star is attached to lead an original sci-fi action ensemble called Soldiers of the Sun, with a script coming from Grace of Monaco writer Arash Amel. This new ci-fi project is certainly worlds apart from the real-life based drama starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly, but the story sounds like it's going to be pretty cool.
The film is set in a post-apocalyptic future and follow a squad of soldiers who are searching for a fabled city of gold while on a tour of duty in Mexico attempting to free it from the grasp of an alien race called Orcs. Aside from the fact that Amel couldn't come up with anything better to call the alien race (maybe there's a reason for the familiar name), this sounds pretty cool, and producer Lorenzo do Bonaventura (Transformers, G.I. Joe) is hoping that it kicks off a new franchise at Universal, the same studio behind the aforementioned sci-fi series that began with Pitch Black. Diesel is clearly at the top of his game right now, and we hope he can keep the momentum going with this original project.
