Hopefully you've been paying attention to our awards expert Joey Magidson and all his Oscar analysis and predictions, and you're aware of some of the films and directors in the running for some Academy Awards love for the year in film that is 2013. Well, as part of the awards season gamut, The Hollywood Reporter usually features several roundtables with the prominent figures and likely nominees from some of these film. Right now, we've decided to highlight their director's roundtable featuring a 54-minute chat with Steve McQueen, Paul Greengrass, David O. Russell, Ben Stiller, Alfonso Cuaron & Lee Daniels.
Here's The Hollywood Reporter's 2013 Director's Roundtable:
The directors in question were behind the camera for 12 Years a Slave, Captain Phillips, American Hustle, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Gravity and Lee Daniels' The Butler, and while they won't all be nominated for Best Director, a few of them will make the cut. The directors talk about some bad experiences (Great Expectations for Cuaron) and also share several stories from their filmmaking careers, including what made them want to become directors. These kinds of chats are incredibly fascinating, and it's great that we get to spend this much time listening to them, though they each deserve their own 50 minutes.
