Watch: 'Dark Knight Trilogy' Featurette with Cillian Murphy's Audition

September 25, 2013

Cillian Murphy

Earlier this week, we checked out a quick video highlighting an audition reel featuring Christian Bale's screen test for Batman Begins. The footage featured Bale donning a slightly less grizzly version of his Batman voice, complete with the suit worn by Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. At the time, the report which also indicated that the entire featurette, which comes on The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition (available now), also showed off an audition from Cillian Murphy. The actor didn't become Batman, and ended up playing Scarecrow. But now we get to see him as Batman. Watch below!

Here's the Dark Knight Trilogy featurette showing the Casting of Batman via Comic Book Movie:

Honestly, the quick cuts of Murphy as Batman are pretty damn great. But there's just something about Murphy that's a little too creepy to make him feel like a genuine playboy Bruce Wayne. When it comes down to it, Christian Bale had both the looks and acting talent to make both Batman and Bruce Wayne believable as characters. We're just lucky that Christopher Nolan and the producers recognized how good Murphy was in his audition, and gave him a sizable role in the franchise reboot. And since he ended up recurring in small appearances in both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, everything worked out in the end.
