The Bling Ring Teaser

"Let's go shopping…" This probably won't last long online, so watch it while its hot! The first short teaser trailer for Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring has been discovered online, and it's a great teaser, even though it occasionally has timecode on the footage. The Bling Ring is the new film from Coppoa starring Emma Watson as the leader of a group of wild teens obsessed with fashion and fame who burglarize the homes of celebrities in Los Angeles. This is exactly what I expected the film to look like, and yes it does seem kind of awesome. At least Coppola is steering this ship, because otherwise it might just be a party movie. Have fun!

Watch the official teaser trailer for Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, on YouTube (via The Film Stage):

Tracking their targets' online, the teens break-in and steal designer clothes and possessions. Reflecting on the naiveté of youth, amplified by today’s culture of celebrity and luxury brand obsession, the members of the Bling Ring introduce us to temptations nearly any teenager would find hard to resist. What starts out as youthful fun spins out of control and reveals a sobering view of modern culture. Based on actual events.

The Bling Ring is both written and directed by American auteur Sofia Coppola, of the films The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette and Somewhere previously. This hasn't premiered at any film festivals yet. A24 will open The Bling Ring in limited theaters on June 14th this summer. Look good?

It feels like spring breakers from the trailer, but I want to see this more.

One of my most-anticipated of 2013. I wonder if this will end up being as 'fluffy' as the trailer makes it look... wouldn't count on it. Either way, it'll be a fun watch.
  • Can't watch the trailer now. Sounds like a bit like the Lo-Lifes from the 90's but a bit wetter, well, a lot wetter. Check out the trailer for the documentary about them, actually makes Ralph Lauren a little more interesting.

  • After seeing the trailer, it looks like it'll take a steep down turn. Could be alright. The obsession with expensive clothes by poor people is crazy.

Lost In Translation is one of the most overrated films ever. This looks cool though.
  • Hermione could get it.

I hope they all die at the end.
