Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

"They can be taught to love." The very first teaser trailer for a strong Oscar contender this fall, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, has arrived. In this new film about Nelson Mandela's life journey, British actor Idris Elba plays the iconic South African revolutionary and we get to hear some of his voice in this first teaser. But the rest of the footage is nothing but sweeping, circling helicopter shots of an older Mandela walking up a hill. It looks wonderful, and I love the dialogue and lines he's speaking, I just wish we could see more footage. But I'm sure we will soon. In the meantime listen to Elba's comforting, inspiring voice below.

Watch the first UK teaser trailer for Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, via YouTube:

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) and written by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Miserables). Idris Elba leads the film which chronicles Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Naomie Harris (Skyfall) co-stars as Mandela's wife Winnie with a supporting cast that also includes Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva, Deon Lotz and Terry Pheto. The Weinstein Company will give the film a limited release starting November 29th. How does that look?

    Accent feels kinda forced.
I agree. It sounds not unlike Depp's Tanto.

Actually I think Elba did a great job... it doesn't sound too forced... he might be using a cadence and pattern closer to is Nigerian roots.

Wow. A lot of Mandela films over the years. Terrance Hoeard, Jennifer Hudson, Morgan Freeman.... Kinda like it.

Accent sounds legit to me. Only word that stood out a little was "Naturally". Probably accurate though....Elba is awesome.
