It has begun! Production is now underway on the new Godzilla movie, being directed by Gareth Edwards for Legendary Pictures. We most recently posted the production start details, but Legendary Pictures (@Legendary) has tweeted out a video featuring director Gareth Edwards giving a personal introduction and welcome to the set on Day 1 of Godzilla. There's not much to this, but it's just marking the momentous occasion, and giving us a chance to get a little more acquainted with the guy who (already looking tired) will be bringing giant mutated monsters to life again. This set looks like a Japanese airport border checkpoint.

Godzilla, being directed by Gareth Edwards (of Monsters), comes from a screenplay written by Drew Pearce, Max Borenstein and Frank Darabont. The cast is lead by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, with Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn and Juliette Binoche. Exact plot details are unknown, beyond that it involves multiple gigantic monsters and all the carnage, death and destruction they cause. I'm sure we'll see more updates from Gareth Edwards as they continue filming. Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures will send Godzilla stomping into theaters on May 16th, 2014 next summer. Fans getting excited for this yet?
