Though the first trailer for Elysium was certainly intriguing, we've heard it wasn't nearly as breathtaking or impressive as the 10-minutes of footage Sony showed to select audiences just before the trailer was unveiled (read Alex Billington's recap of the event here). Now the first TV spot is here with some more footage from the anticipated film from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp. It doesn't give much away about the plot other that Matt Damon breaking into the paradise known as Elysium, but there's a bad ass shot of Sharlto Copley as the film's villain, and some great visual effects that look quite gorgeous. Watch!

Here's the first TV spot for Neill Blomkamp's Elyisum, found via The Film Stage:

Elysium, directed by South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (of District 9), focuses on Secretary Rhodes (Foster), a hardened government official, who will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. However, that doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds. Sony/Columbia has Elysium set to hit theaters on August 9th this summer. Thoughts?

I never thought I'd see Sharlto play a villain and never would he look as badass as he does playing one. Idk, maybe it's the beard but he looks pretty sick!
