Watch: Trailer for Supernatural Thriller 'The Monk' with Vincent Cassel
"However pious, however holy, temptation hunts us all!" ATO Pictures has debuted a theatrical trailer for the supernatural thriller The Monk, directed by German filmmaker Dominik Moll. This premiered way back in 2011 and is just now getting a US release this March, but it looks incredibly dark (blame the DP!) and creepy and weird as all Hell, but interesting. Mostly because it stars French actor Vincent Cassel as a monk brought up a monastery, corrupted by temptation. There's a lot of weird imagery, complimenting a story adapted from Matthew Lewis' classic novel. If a gothic supernatural thriller sounds fun, give it a look.

Madrid, in the 17th Century. Abandoned at the doorstep of a monastery, Ambrosio (Vincent Cassel) has been brought up by the Capucin Friars. After becoming a friar himself, he becomes an unrivaled preacher whose sermons draw crowds and earn him the admiration of all. Admired for his extreme rigor and absolute virtue, Ambrosio is certain he is safe from any temptation. But Satan has not said his final word.
The Monk is written & directed by German filmmaker Dominik Moll (Lemming, With a Friend Like Harry), adapted from a 18th century novel written by Matthew Lewis. This opened in Europe back in 2011, but is just now getting released by ATO Pictures. The Monk arrives in limited theaters, plus VOD, on March 8th.
