Riddick

Next week, the eagerly anticipated sci-fi sequel Riddick is coming to theaters, nearly 10 years after The Chronicles of Riddick arrived in 2004. We've already seen a handful of exciting trailers, but now we get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the film with star Vin Diesel and director David Twohy. Along with new footage from the film, there's also explanation of the story and a little bit of background from the previous films. This film will be the second major release starring Diesel from Universal Pictures, and while it won't be quite as big a hit as Fast & Furious 6, there are certainly a lot of loyal fans waiting for this flick. Watch!

Here's the featurette for David Twohy's Riddick from Universal Pictures:

Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick director David Twohy returns to write and direct Riddick. Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction. Universal is releasing Riddick everywhere on September 6th this fall.

Maybe its the way these trailers are cut (blockbuster trailers are notoriusly bad anyhow). Maybe its just me. But with every additional clip/trailer, Riddick's looking more and more average to me :(... I think the position some have taken to blockbusters make sense in this case. "Ignore the trailers, and expect nothing. You might be pleasantly surprised." Pitch Black was my first R movie (18 over here in the UK), by no means do I want a carbon copy. But its balance of tone, humour, action, characters, themes and performances is what (in my opinion) made it great. I just hope they've found a balance in the end product that works for this movie. Fingers crossed.
