Now this is awesome! While Robert Redford keeps busy with Sundance or making low key dramas that he usually has a hand in writing and directing, it sounds like he's taking the time for a big blockbuster. Deadline has word that Redford is currently in talks to take a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And what's even more exciting is that he's playing a senior leader of S.H.I.E.L.D., so unless his character meets an unlikely demise, there's a chance that he could pop up in other Marvel films down the road. The question is, just how influential will this character be when it comes to this present day adventure.
Perhaps Redford plays one of those kind of S.H.I.E.L.D. leaders that Nick Fury so stylishly defied at the end of The Avengers. Since the secret organization is the group that brought Steve Rogers back from being a Capsicle, it's no surprise that the other members of S.H.I.E.L.D., including Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Scarlett Johansson, will be showing up. In addition, Maximiliano Hernández was confirmed this morning to come back as Agent Sitwell, likely as an interim replacement for the deceased Agent Coulson (though his part in ABC's "S.H.I.E.L.D." TV series makes us wonder about his death), but it doesn't sound like Jeremy Renner will be involved, at least not yet. Good news?
