Will Arnett Gets Unknown Role in Jonathan Liebesman's 'Ninja Turtles'
With a quartet of very low key talents taking on the roles of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo, the new adaptation of Ninja Turtles from producer Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman needs some starpower. Megan Fox is already playing April O'Neil, for better or worse, and now THR has word that Will Arnett has landed a role in the live-action/CG hybrid film that has ruffled some feathers due to the origins of the heroes in a half-shell revealed in this version. Though the trade isn't sure what role Arnett will take, they have learned he won't play the hockey-masked vigilante ally Casey Jones.
That only leaves a few possibilities. Arnett would certainly be an interesting choice for Shredder, the turtles main adversary, but we're not sure he's menacing beyond his voice. But speaking of his voice, that would make for quite a good Splinter, the mutant rat who raises and trains the turtles into the martial arts heroes they become. But depending on just how deep into comic book and cartoon lore the film could go, he could also play a role like Baxter Stockman (though the comic character was African American, he was white in the cartoons). Or maybe Arnett isn't playing an iconic character, and he could just play O'Neil's boss. We'll likely find out soon as casting continues for the June 6th, 2014 release. Thoughts?
