Will Smith Replaces Ben Affleck in 'Focus' as Kristen Stewart Leaves
After Ben Affleck became attached to Glenn Ficarra and John Requa's heist film Focus with Kristen Stewart, he sadly had to drop out because of scheduling for his directorial effort Live By Night, based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same name. But now the writing and directing duo behind Crazy Stupid Love may have lucked out by getting an arguably bigger name that might mean more success at the box office. THR has word that superstar Will Smith is now in talks to start in the film about a veteran conman (Smith) who gets involved with a newcomer to the grifter business and they end up getting a little romantic.
However, things get complicated since they both lie, cheat and steal for a living. Going their separate ways, things get even more interesting when they run into each other again, their romantic past haunting their every turn, as Smith is prepping an elaborate con in Bueno Aires. I like the idea of Smith doing a film with Ficarra and Requa, I don't like the idea of Stewart being the female lead opposite Smith, so it's good that she's now dropped out. Frankly, I don't think she's charismatic or talented enough to play a female lead that would get the attention of someone like Smith. Plus, she just seems far too young for a role like this. So who can step up into the role now? Maybe someone like Rachel McAdams? Thoughts?
