Alec Baldwin in 'Mission: Impossible 5' & Will Smith Football Drama
The best thing Alec Baldwin has done in the past decade (besides The Departed) is undoubtedly his Emmy winning role as Jack Donaghy on the NBC comedy series "30 Rock" where he played the NBC and General Electric executive with unwavering confidence, swagger and hilarity. Now Deadline reports the actor is getting ready to take another pivotal superior role as Parmount is lining up Baldwin to play the head of the CIA in Mission: Impossible 5. There's a part of us that wishes he was simply playing Jack Donaghy in the film, but that probably isn't in the cards. Though it likely means that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) will either clash or work with the CIA again in some capacity. And that's not the only role the actor has lined up either.
The same report also indicates that Baldwin is currently in talks to take a role in the untitled football concussion drama that has Will Smith in the lead. There's not word on what role he'll have in the film, but it's easy to imagine him being either a team owner, head coach or some kind of pro football head honcho. Baldwin has a gift for being charming and dastardly, so he could be on either side of this timely and relevant sports drama directed by Peter Landesman and produced by Ridley Scott. Both should serve as a nice return to the big screen for Baldwin, who took a brief break to spend time with his pregnant wife.
UPDATE: Variety also reports that White Queen star Rebecca Ferguson is the top choice to take a lead female role in Mission: Impossible 5 as well. She doesn't have an offer yet, but Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and Paramount all want her to have the job. We still don't know what kind of story we're dealing with for the Impossible Mission Force this time, but Ferguson's role would be some sort of assassin. But is she a good guy or a bad guy in the script from Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce? We'll have to wait and see.
