By the time the next film from Steven Spielberg hits theaters, it will have been nearly three years since Lincoln hit theaters. That just goes to show you how hard it is to find the right project or even get one made, regardless of whether you're an iconic filmmaker or not. But Spielberg is hard at work on getting an untitled Cold War thriller off the ground, aiming to begin shooting this fall, with Tom Hanks reuniting with the director for a fourth time. And now Deadline has a line on some supporting cast members with Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone, Win Win) and veteran actor Alan Alda both taking roles. But that's not all. More below!
In addition, TV stars Billy Magnussen ("Boardwalk Empire") and Eve Hewson ("The Knick") have landed roles, joining stage star Mark Rylance as part of the supporting cast. For those who haven't been following the project, it tells the story of true story of James Donovan, an attorney who negotiated the release of downed U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers, who was held and interrogated by the KGB and imprisoned for espionage. Joel & Ethan Coen gave the script a rewrite and now it's on the path to production, shooting on location in New York and Berlin, with a release date set for October 16th, 2015. Stay tuned for more updates as production looms closer.
