After finding success with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, superstars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reteaming again, but on a completely different kind of film. In fact, this time Jolie will be directing the project called By the Sea, in addition to writing the script and starring in the film. However, there are absolutely no plot details on the film as it is simply called, "an intimate, character-driven drama" in which Pitt will also star. This will mark the third film Jolie has directing following In the Land of Blood and Honey and this year's Oscar contender Unbroken, the story of Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini (watch the trailer here).
In the standard publicity fluff, Jolie said, "I am very happy to continue my relationship with Donna [Langley] and the entire Universal team as I finish ‘Unbroken' and begin work on By the Sea. They have created a very special place for storytellers, and I look forward to the continued passion and support they have provided to me as a filmmaker. Jolie seems to be anxious to spend more time behind the camera than in front of it (unless it's in her own projects), and I wouldn't be surprised to see acting take a backseat in her career. And that's just fine, because there need to be more female directors.
