There's been some updates regarding the cast of Pitch Perfect 2 adding Hailee Steinfeld and bringing back Adam DeVine, but the a capella sequel isn't the only thing keeping Anna Kendrick busy. The star of Drinking Buddies, 50/50 and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has just lined up two more projects for her future slate One report from Deadline has Kendrick co-starring with John Krasinski in "The Office" star's sophomore directing effort The Hollars, meanwhile, a separate news story reveals that she will co-star with Sam Rockwell in Mr. Right, an indie romantic comedy written by Chronicle scribe Max Landis.
With The Hollars, the cast also includes Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale. The story follows Krasinski in the lead as John Hollar, an aspiring artist in New York City who takes his girlfriend (Kendrick) back to his Middle America hometown the day before his mother (Martindale) is supposed to have brain surgery. In typical indie fashion, the life Hollar left behind is on full display, including his dysfunctional family (Jenkins plays Krasinski's father), high school friends, and an overenthusiastic ex-girlfriend. This will be Krasinski's first time behind the camera since his debut Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, and while it sounds fairly formulaic for an indie like this, maybe this cast can make it great.
As for Mr. Right, Kendrick plays a woman who hasn't had any luck at all trying to find someone to spend the rest of her life with. When if finally seems like she's met a man with promise (Sam Rockwell), the other shoe drops when she learns this guy is a reformed hit man. Things get more complicated when something from his past threatens his life, and the would-be romance just might be the catalyst to saving them both from their vastly different haunting pasts. Tokarev helmer Paco Cabezas will be behind the camera and while the premise sounds wacky, Kendrick and Rockwell being involved makes it sound promising.
