Chris Pine is Not Expecting a 'Jack Ryan' Sequel to Come Together
We're just a couple days out from the end of 2014, and that's probably why we've nearly forgotten that Chris Pine starred in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit at the beginning of the year. Aside from the fact that the film was flat and boring, Pine has proven to have infinitely better work on display here at the end of the year with a hilarious turn in Horrible Bosses 2, and a surprisingly fantastic role in the musical Into the Woods. Therefore, we're not surprised that when Pine sat down to chat with Moviefone, he wasn't hopeful that a Jack Ryan sequel would happen, and he even wishes Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit was better.
When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Pine stated, "No. I don’t think it made enough money for that to happen.” He then went on to lament the first film, though without bashing it harshly, "That’s one of my deep regrets, that we didn’t totally get that right. It’s a great franchise and if it’s not me then I hope it gets a fifth life at this point. It’s just great. I love the spy genre. I hope it’s done again and with a great story." Jack Ryan is one of those characters who keeps hitting the big screen at least once every decade, so we're sure Paramount Pictures will try again sometime down the road, but we're fine if it's not for another 10 years.
