Confirmed: The Avengers Roster is Different at End of 'Age of Ultron'

The Avengers

Back towards the end of August, we learned that there might be some changes made to the roster of The Avengers at the conclusion of next summer's sequel The Avengers: Age of Ultron (watch the teaser trailer right here). Reportedly, that's because Marvel wants to have a different team in place so that some of the contracted members of the original assembly of heroes still have a movie left in their contract for something else coming down the road the the comic book studio's cinematic universe. Now Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige has confirmed that The Avengers roster will be different at the end of Age of Ultron.

Speaking with BuzzFeed, here's what Feige said about the new team coming:

“It’s like as it was in publishing, when each of the characters would go on their own adventures and then occasionally team up for a big, 12-issue mega-event.  Then they would go back into their own comics, and be changed from whatever that event was.  I envision the same thing occurring after this movie because the [Avengers] roster is altered by the finale of this film.”

Considering the fact that Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) are going to have quite the confrontation in Captain America 3 when the Civil War storyline kicks off, there's definitely going to be some rifts in the original team by the time The Avengers 3 rolls around, and that's why this new team will need to be in place. Age of Ultron is introducing us to Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and The Vision (Paul Bettany) and rumors have pegged War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) as being on board too. However, rumblings have also indicated some other new heroes like Ms. Marvel might be introduced too. Maybe we'll find out more after Marvel has some kind of big press event today at 2pm Eastern time. Stay tuned.

Please let this be related to the Spiderman rumor about Sony sharing the rights.

hum Sony has the clutches around Spiderman like an obsessed lover who stalks you and monitors your phone calls and Facebook messages... Sony won't ever leave Spiderman alone... EVER!!!

Yeah but they're not doing anything with him for like 4 years. Why not keep Spider-Man active and make some $$$ in the meantime.

I agree with how you feel - I wish they could re- write a contract - but once you sell something It's the buyers rights to do as they please. Maybe one day Sony and Marvel/Disney might come to An agreement - but Fox would work with Sony before Disney works with either, so were more likely to see Spiderman and Wolverine on screen before spiderman and avengers.... Sad world - but what's even sadder is wolverine is An avenger and well never see him team up with any of the Crew that's avenging now... We can just keep hoping for what needs to happen, Marvel get there entire IP back... Marvel is a stupid or at least the management is. Stan Lee would have never let this Come to where it is now, but he never had full creative rights to any Of his characters.. And even sadder story 🙂

There is a thing called re-negotiation. The Amazing Spider-Man is a weak franchise, and Sony knows it. They are using Sinister Six to do a soft reboot. Sony and Marvel/ Disney have always had a good working relationship, and are in talks to share rights to Spidey. Why wouldn't Sony do everything they can to get some of that sweet mouse money from Disney?

Did you hear recently Marvel and Sony have had talks about sharing Spidey? They were even really really close to putting the Oscorp Tower in the Avengers but it was too last minute of an idea. It's not full control over rights but it'd still be amazing to see Spider-Man play in the MCU. Question: Why would a movie site report this in a headline without a spoiler alert? Answer: Because F-you.

Although your answer is a bit much for me, your question is a valid one. It is difficult to remain spoiler free these days when headlines are becoming the spoilers...and not just on movie sites! You can hardly peruse any entertainment news without stumbling over headlines that are screaming plot points and surprises. It's a little sad that the need to scoop other sites and drive traffic have brought us to the point you can't read your favorite movie site without being spoiled on tentpole movies by headlines.

This is good for suspense vs. surprise. You know something's going to happen, but you don't know exactly what, and you don't know how, or what the result will be. That's suspense, and I happily take that over somebody suddenly dying at the end, or whatever is happening.

Well said. I applaud Alex (et al,) for his efforts at containment... but the line is indeed growing increasingly hazy between marketing and spoiling. Can't blame them too much for reporting what's considered "news" these days. I think we're getting old.

avconsumer2 on Oct 29, 2014

You mean this whole story? The spoiler is naming who/what the changes are at the end, but the announcement of this is simply a reveal to drum up buzz. Kevin Feige literally talks about this in an interview, he's not a spoiling a thing and neither are we. Please lighten up a bit on this spoiler nonsense.

Question: why go to a movie site if the smallest detail is considered a spoiler to you? Because, you are dumb.

Brian Sleider on Oct 28, 2014

Because they know your not going to pay money to see Josh "Buffy" Wheedon's new movie.. so milk, spoils it does... young Padwan , and yet no milk does i see.

Any one, ANYONE other than Kick ass PLEASE, PLEASE let him die, I mean why not get a cardboard cut out? Acts just as well and would basically be free.

Brian Sleider on Oct 28, 2014

Are we to assume that there will be deaths at the end of Avengers 2? Or just fallings out? Perhaps some Avengers go out and form their own team with Tony. So many possibilities....I'll just stop speculating and wait to see what they come up with.

New additions to the Avengers are Captain Planet, Hawkman, Lenny Kravitz (as himself), Cyborg Batman, and Rick from the Walking Dead

Kravitz as new hero, THE SCARF!
