SLC Punk

If the recent news of a Joe Dirt sequel seemed to come out of left field, then this one is really going to throw you for a loop. The Wrap has word that SLC Punk! writer and director James Marendino is getting ready to shoot a sequel to his 1998 cult classic this June in Salt Lake City. The film is called SLC Punk 2: Punk's Dead, and original cast members Devon Sawa, Michael Goorjian, Adam Pascal and James Duval are all returning to reprise their respective characters Sean, Heroin Bob, Eddie and John the Mod. The film takes place 18 years later, which could be real-time by the time the film comes out, but what's it all about?

Awhile back, there was an Indiegogo campaign to help fund a big concert scene, and this synopsis was there:

"18 years later, in PUNK'S DEAD, Bob is still dead, but Trish from the Bong Shop, Stevo, Sean the Beggar, John the Mod, crazy Mark and tree hugger Mike are arrogantly saving the world for another generation...or they are at least trying. Get ready to find out what happened to your favorite characters, as we take you to the pivotal events in their lives since SLC PUNK. Holding it all together will be the misadventures and observations of one of their offspring, an eccentric kid named Ross, the Spawn of Heroin Bob, who has a lot to live up to…"

So there you go. Heroin Bob's son will be played by Ben Schnetzer (who has a role in the upcoming Warcraft movie) as Heroin Bob's son and Machine Gun Kelly has a role as a character named Crash. In addition, there are two female leads played Hannah Marks and Sarah Clarke, lesser seen actresses who appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man and Twilight, respectively. It sounds like this is a next generation kind of story, but with so many returning cast members, it doesn't sound like it will all focus on the new characters. Merendino says there's also two cameos that he won't reveal. This seems like an odd project to come about, but the film has pletny of cult fans who will be interested. Are you one of them?
