Djimon Hounsou Mentors King Arthur in 'Knights at the Round Table'
Hot on the heels of news that Jude Law would play the primary antagonist of Knights of the Round Table, the first in a hopeful six-film franchise telling the tale of hero King Arthur, the final major role has been filled at last. Variety reports Gladiator and Guardians of the Galaxy star Djimon Hounsou has landed the role of Arthur's mentor, who is described as a Merlin-esque figure, but isn't exactly playing the iconic wizard from the classic tales. This is the role that Pacific Rim star Idris Elba was once being lined up for, but the actor didn't close a deal. Hounsou is a solid alternative to what will likely be a recurring role.
Hounsou has been lucky with some big roles lately, because in addition to causing problems for Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, he also has a role in Furious 7 next spring and will also appear in Warner Bros. Pictures new take on Tarzan coming in the summer of 2016. Sadly, before all that we'll see him in Seventh Son in February, and that looks like an absolutely disaster of a movie. But with Guy Ritchie at the helm of Knights of the Round Table and a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam as Arthur and Astrid Berges-Frisbey as Guinivere, this sounds like it could be pretty good. Stay tuned for more.
