Edgar Ramirez Replacing Gerard Butler in the 'Point Break' Remake
Just over a week ago, the mostly unnecessary remake of Point Break lost one of their leading men. Gerard Butler was slated to take over the role of Bodhi, the extreme surfer and thief played by Patrick Swayze in the original 1991 action thriller directed by Kathryn Bigelow. However, the actor dropped out due to scheduling issues and creative conflict. Producers wanted to find a replacement as quickly as possible in order to stick with their production schedule, and Variety reports Deliver Us from Evil and Wrath of the Titans star Edgar Ramirez is now in talks to take over the lead role in the remake directed by Ericson Cole. Read on!
The story hasn't changed much as it still focuses on an FBI agent (Luke Bracey) infiltrating a ring of criminals who are also immersed in the world of extreme sports. The first film featured the thieves also being skilled surfers, but it's not clear if a different sport will be substituted in its place this time. In addition, Ray Winstone has taken the role of Pappas, played by Gary Busey in the original film. We're still not really interested in this remake, but at least with Ramirez in the lead, this won't be a complete bust. Unfortunately, we don't think he's good enough to make this worth our time. What do you think?
UPDATE: The film has been given a release date of August 7th, 2015. So make other plans.
