Insidious: Chapter 3

The next installment of horror in the Insidious franchise will be upon us next summer with Insidious: Chapter 3. This time, writer Leigh Whannel is stepping behind the camera as director, and it looks like he's captured what James Wan delivered with the first two installments. This time, the story takes us to the past where a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) and her father (Dermot Mulroney) are haunted by dark spirits, all happening before the events in the first two films. There's some truly startling moments here, but also some of the stuff we're sick of in horror movies. Also, doesn't it seem odd that both Insidious and the spin-off Annabelle (both produced by Wan) moved the horror from a house to an apartment complex? Hmm. Watch!

Here's the teaser trailer for Leigh Whannel's Insidious: Chapter 3 from the film's Facebook:

Insidious: Chapter 3, is written and directed by Leigh Whannel from a story hatched with producer James Wan, the director of the first two films in the Insidious franchise. A twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further. Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott are new members of the cast with Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannel himself reprising their roles from the first two films. Focus Features releases the horror sequel next year on May 29th, 2015. Excited?

I can not wait to see Leigh direct his first film! The trailer makes it look like he's going to perfectly keep in the footprint of James' directing for the series. I'm so excited.

Well that was a pleasant surprise, that first scene scared the shit out of me. we know Leigh has talent in the writing and screenplay side of things and Im sure hes learned more than enough from Wan. Im also a big fan of Dermot.

"That first scene scared the shit out of me." Well now I'm gonna ignore the trailer so I can enjoy the scene in a theater ha-ha. I'd like for them to do away with the comic relief this time (the sequel had too much). Save that for the comedy Wan decides to make. And if ever Wan decides to return to Horror then I'd love to see him tell a story that doesn't involve a haunted house. It can clearly be done and right now is the time 'cause I'm tired of 'em. If anything he would be the best person to spin mainstream Horror in a different direction. It's very necessary. Throw that money you're getting into a creative production.

I thought the comic relief was very well balanced in the first two movies but it didn't distract from the scares or story. I think Wan taking horror in a different direction would be good. What if he tried his first monster movie? That'd be something to see.

Whatever he does I just hope it's different. Adapt a novel.
  • The first Insidious was great until it turned into a comedy in the last half hour. The sequel was a joke.
