Full Japanese Trailer Shows 'Maleficent' Creeping on Sleeping Beauty

March 25, 2014

Last week's theatrical trailer painted a much better picture of the fairytale Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie as one of Disney's most iconic villains. Now a Japanese trailer shows off even more footage, paying special attention to the fairies (which look better, but still not fully rendered), and the creepy relationship Maleficent begins with Sleeping Beauty after she has already cursed her as a baby. Then there's a bit of the flashback stuff from the previous full trailer with Maleficent losing her wings and all that jazz. We're hoping for the best with this revisionist fairytale, and we won't have to wait much longer to see it on the big screen.

Here's the full Japanese trailer for Robert Stromberg's Maleficent from YouTube:

Robert Stromberg (a production designer on Alice in Wonderland and Avatar) is making his directorial debut with Maleficent from a script written by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast). Angelina Jolie plays the title villain from the classic Disney film Sleeping Beauty in this live-action spin that also stars Sharlto Copley (District 9), Elle Fanning (Super 8), Sam Riley (On the Road), Imelda Staunton (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), Juno Temple (Atonement) and more. Disney sends Maleficent to theaters everywhere in 3D on May 30th, 2014 this summer. Visit the film's official website. Excited?

Cool. I'd read somewhere that there was some bad blood between Mal & King Stephan... certainly will put an interesting spin on the story... curses her as revenge, then realizes she's a sweet & innocent girl... maybe leading to the briar-wall, to protect Aurora as much as keep a non-couragous Prince out?

I really like how this movie looks so far, especially from what I've seen from trailer #3 and this new international/Japanese trailer. It looks like it will be very very good. I am looking forward to seeing it in 2 months ! :) .
